Ohio State and Notre Dame Rankings
Notre Dame currently sits at No. 9 in both the AP Top 25 and the AFCA Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes rank No. 6 in the AP poll and No. 4 in the coaches poll.
Notre Dame's ranking in the polls has been a steady climb this season, as the team ranked No. 13 in both polls prior to season start. Ohio State remains in the same spot as it did in the preseason in the coaches poll, but fell from No. 3 in the AP poll.
Ohio State Coaches and Top Team Players
Ryan Day is in his sixth season as the Buckeyes head coach, taking over after a seven-year campaign by Urban Meyer. Day has finished the last two seasons 11-2, losing to UGA in the Peach Bowl, which is the College Football Playoff semifinal, last season. The Buckeyes and Day promoted Brian Hartline to offensive coordinator from wide receivers coach this season. Jim Knowles, who will need to earn back the trust of fans after allowing 45 points to Michigan last season, will be the team's defensive coordinator. The Buckeyes are +700 to win the National Championship, the third-best odds in the country.
The most interesting aspect of this team will be its offense. Kyle McCord, who started one game with C.J. Stroud out in 2021, is the team's starting quarterback. The team will return its top four receiving weapons, but none are more potent than Marvin Harrison Jr., who ended last season with 1,263 receiving yards. Right now, FanDuel has the Marvin Harrison Jr. Heisman odds at +3500 to win.
Notre Dame Coaches and Top Team Players
The Fighting Irish are led by coach Marcus Freeman in his second season with the program. He lost his first two games last season but ended the season on a strong note. Notre Dame finished 9-4 and 18th in the AP poll. Notre Dame is +1500 to win the championship.
The Fighting Irish defense has nine starters that have been with the program and then added two graduate transfers, defensive end Jean-Baptiste and nickel corner Thomas Harper, in the offseason. The offense has new leader, quarterback Sam Hartman, who was a standout at Wake Forest. He is +1000 to win the Heisman. Hartman has thrown for 38+ touchdowns the last two seasons.

2023-24 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Predictions
This is going to be a tougher game for the Buckeyes than many expect. It will be the first real challenge for McCord. Prior to this game, Ohio State had Indiana, Youngstown State and Western Kentucky, and did not beat the first two teams by as many points as some expected they would.
Notre Dame's poise, experience, pressure and patience will cause trouble for the Buckeyes, who have a new offensive coordinator and starting quarterback. Hartman is among the best quarterbacks in the nation, and the team brought back their leading rusher, Audric Estime, from last season as well.
I expect the Buckeyes to come out on top, but on the road, Notre Dame should be able to keep things close and potentially lose by one to seven points.
