Ohio State Football 2025 Win Total Prediction: Betting Odds, Trends & Historical Context

Jim Tomlin Profile Picture

The Ohio State football program has a knack for winning national titles when there’s a new format to determine the champion.

The Buckeyes won it all in 2014, the first year of the four-team College Football Playoff. Last season, they repeated the feat in the inaugural 12-team CFP.

The current win total for Ohio State in the 2025 college football season is 10.5 wins (with +135 odds on the over) with the team at DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio. BetOhio.com found all teams with a 10- or 10.5-win total line the past three seasons and how they performed.

To show what a difference the CFP expansion made for Ohio State last season, consider this: The Buckeyes also were at 10.5 wins at Ohio sportsbooks going into last year and wound up under, at 10-2 in the regular season. They missed the Big Ten championship game, but their resume was good enough to get into the 12-team CFP field as the No. 8 seed. It’s a good thing for OSU that the field expanded because the team would never have been in the four-team Playoff.

Coach Ryan Day’s senior-heavy team then went on a tear by defeating Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame to win the first 12-team Playoff.

Recent History For 10-Win and 10.5-Win O/U Teams

The numbers over the past three seasons, as far as teams with high expectations making a Playoff, are not quite apples and oranges. Again, the CFP field only expanded to 12 last year, so for the 2022 and 2023 seasons the percentage of teams making the Playoff will be lower because the format only had four teams then.

The chances of a team listed at 10 or 10.5 wins at Ohio sportsbook apps to deliver on that double-digit win prop have been exactly 50/50 over the past three seasons. Remember: The over/under bets pay out at the end of the regular season and do not account for either the CFP or any other bowl game.

In 2024, there were five teams with win totals set at 10.5; only Notre Dame and Oregon paid out on the over. Georgia, Liberty and OSU went under. A 10-win O/U was a bit easier to achieve as Penn State and Texas exceeded that number, with Utah going under. Still, it’s not like the oddsmakers truly whiffed: Of the eight teams with double-digit preseason win totals, six made the CFP field.

Ohio State Football Outlook 2025

The expectations are as high as ever in Columbus and throughout the Buckeye State even though OSU lost 14 players – more than any other program – to the 2025 NFL Draft.

And in the second season of the 18-team Big Ten, the conference will be loaded again. Road games loom on the OSU schedule against five league rivals: Washington (Sept. 27), Illinois (Oct. 11), Wisconsin (Oct. 18), Purdue (Nov. 8) and archrival Michigan (Nov. 29).

But before the Buckeyes even concern themselves with any of that, there’s a nonconference clash in Columbus on Aug. 30 against Texas in a rematch of last season’s Cotton Bowl thriller, which was the closest game OSU won during the CFP grind.

Still, at Caesars Ohio Sportsbook, the Buckeyes are favored to win the national championship with +500 odds, followed by the Longhorns at +550. OSU is also atop the Big Ten futures board at +190 odds, followed by Penn State (+240) and defending league champion Oregon (+260).

The line for OSU under 10.5 wins is -160 at DraftKings as of May 8.

It’s never too early to think about Ohio State CFP chances for 2025, at least not in a state as obsessed with its dominant program as Ohio is.
