The chart above measures results for searches from May 14-21, 2024. Search interest scores are measured compared to other search terms.

The home of Ohio sportsbook apps is high on our chart of states most interested in (or at least searching the internet for) information about potatoes.

The Buckeye State is fifth among states seeking “potato recipe” answers in their browsers, with a search interest score of 57 (the top score is 100). Maryland (100 search interest score) is first, followed by Virginia (96), Michigan (80), New Jersey (60) then Ohio.

One of the most interesting aspects of the list is that none of the states on it are among the five states that produce the most potatoes. The one thing almost everyone knows about Idaho is that it’s famous for its potatoes and for good reason. It grows the most potatoes of any state, followed by neighboring Washington. Those two states combine for more than half of the nation’s supply, according to the Agricultural Marketing Resource Center.

It was a close race for Ohio’s favorite way to prepare and consume spuds. French fries had a statewide search interest score of 39 in the time period we studied, just a shaker of salt ahead of chips (37 score). Potato salad (18) and baked potatoes (17) were left to fight for third and hash browns (8) completed our list.
