Back in April, the Cincinnati Bengals used the team’s first round pick on a well-regarded defensive end out of Texas A&M, with Shemar Stewart expected to be the next great cog in the trenches for head coach Zac Taylor and company. BetOhio.com developed odds projecting when Stewart would sign his contract with the team, after it was released that Stewart left minicamp on Thursday morning.

When Will Stewart Sign?

After departing this week’s minicamp without signing a deal, it’s worth wondering whether the 17th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft will be on the team’s payroll by the time training camp kicks off on July 23 inside Kettering Health Practice Fields in Cincinnati.

With that in mind, we’re giving the Bengals and Stewart’s camp -400 odds of coming to an agreement on a rookie contract by the time camp begins next month, compared to +650 odds that Stewart signs between the start of camp and the regular season and +1400 odds that he does not sign at all.

While the NFL has no set rookie contract deadline date, it’s worth noting that Stewart is one of three first-round picks to remain unsigned, along with former Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron (who was taken 20th overall by the Denver Broncos) and former Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston, who the Buffalo Bills took 30th overall in April.

Still, given the fact that the Bengals have more than a month to come to an agreement with Stewart before the team takes the field in earnest for the first time, it seems like this week’s news out of the Queen City might turn out to be water under the bridge sooner rather than later, as the two sides continue to hammer their way towards a deal that everyone can agree to before the start of training camp.

Given the fact that the NFL has a salary scale for draft picks, which would pay Stewart $18,942,634 in salary over four seasons, it seems like a deal is bound to be announced before long, with the talented defensive end out of Texas A&M making his way to southern Ohio before the dog days of summer arrive in earnest.
