Favorite Thanksgiving Side Dishes in Ohio

Fact Checked by Michael Peters

Thanksgiving Thursday is less than two weeks away and Ohioans are preparing for the nation’s annual tradition of the holiday season with high school football, parades, an NFL triple-header and what is actually going to be put on the dining room table to eat.

Utilizing Google Trends, BetOhio.com took a break from Ohio sports betting and analyzed the most popular Thanksgiving side dishes of state residents by looking at the search results of each side dish from Nov. 1, 2022 to Nov. 30, 2022.

The dishes analyzed were the most in total searches in the United States, including mashed potatoes, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, candied yams, brussel sprouts and cranberry sauce. Here is what Ohioans feast on:

Mac & Cheese Gives Stuffing a Race

Stuffing (16%) topped the list of Ohio gobblers, doubling that of second choice macaroni & cheese (8%). A year ago, the race between the two was nearly a dead heat. Surprisingly, green bean casserole and mashed potatoes tied for third at 7% and sweet potato casserole rounded out the top five at 4%.

Stuffing also tops the list in five of the state’s major cities: Cleveland (40%), Cincinnati (38%), Toledo (36%), Columbus (36%) and Dayton (34%).

Friday Sports Schedule

Make sure to save some of those side dishes for the Friday after Thanksgiving, when you will need something to snack on when you are using Ohio betting apps on a full collegiate sports schedule.

Two Mid-American Conference (MAC) college football matchups kickoff at high noon as Ohio visits Akron and Toledo visits Central Michigan. Five college basketball tipoffs occur throughout the day as Toledo visits Indiana State at 2 p.m., Bowling Green visits Western Kentucky at 7 p.m., Alabama visits Ohio State at 7 p.m. (CBS Sports Network), Youngstown State visits Dayton at 7 p.m. and Ohio visits George Washington at 7 p.m.

And of course you’ll want to keep track of Michigan vs. Ohio State odds for the game the next day.
