Scioto Downs in Columbus Starts Season with New Grandstand

With the buzz of Mage’s Kentucky Derby win and the buildup for next week's Preakness Stakes in Baltimore, racing will be a main topic of choice for sports betting in Ohio and across the nation for the next several weeks.

Not only are the Triple Crown races front-and-center but other tracks are opening meets as well.

Here in Ohio, Eldorado Gaming’s Scioto Downs in Columbus opens its live harness racing meet Thursday, with a new energy and a new look for bettors.

Owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment, Scioto Downs unveiled the grand opening of its brand new multi-million-dollar grandstand last week, just in time for Thursday’s opening day.

The new grandstand features 730 stadium seats, two VIP rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies and a new outdoor patio with 280 seats for a fabulous view of the racetrack.

“Our new grandstand is an exciting step in the maturation of our offering here at Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs and the Caesars commitment to horse racing,” said Amy Ankerson, senior vice president and general manager of Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs, in a news release.

“This new facility will provide our guests with an unforgettable gaming and entertainment experience, delivering on our company promise to treat customers like royalty.”

More Than Just a New Grandstand

Scioto Downs has many other improvements, such as a new winner’s circle and fencing around the front of the track. Also, there is a remodel of the clubhouse patio area with many TVs, a patio bar, teller areas and self-service betting kiosks.

Also, there is a Caesars Sportsbook Ohio at the destination, here for legalized sports wagering’s launch in Ohio on Jan. 1. 

The track will host 90 days of live racing this year, with a special first post time at 5:50 p.m. from May 11-13. The regular weekly schedule will be Tuesday-Saturday, with Tuesday and Wednesday post times at 3:15 p.m.

Special racing days also will occur on Memorial Day and Labor Day.

In addition, Caesars has an Ohio betting app for its racebook. Caesars Racebook is live in 12 other states.
