The fact that Notre Dame held Ohio State to one touchdown over the first three quarters of the season seems hard to believe at this point. Since then, the Buckeyes had slaughtered the competition and quarterback C.J. Stroud is a big reason why.
Against one of the nation’s premier defenses in Wisconsin last week, Stroud made it look easy. Although he was intercepted for the first time this season on a stellar defensive play, the Ohio State signal-caller finished with 281 yards passing through the air and five touchdowns.

What to Know About CJ Stroud Heisman Run
Since the slow start against Notre Dame, C.J. Stroud has been a man possessed. Stroud has accounted for five total touchdowns in each of the last three weeks and only one of those came on the ground.
When it comes to pushing the ball downfield, perhaps no one in the country does it better than Stroud. Currently, his 10.9 yards per pass attempt average ranks fourth in the nation. Stroud’s 16 touchdown passes currently lead the country.
When it comes to passing, there is virtually no statistic where Stroud isn’t in the top 20 nationally. He ranks 20th in completion percentage, 12th in passing yards and second in passer rating and QBR.
If there is a knock on Stroud, it’s that his huge numbers haven’t come against stellar competition. Of the four teams that Ohio State has played so far, none currently have a winning record.
That should change as the season goes on with what seem like marquee matchups remaining against Penn State and Michigan. Perhaps unfortunately for Stroud’s Heisman case, those are the only current ranked teams remaining on the schedule. On the other hand, if he continues to account for five touchdowns each week, it probably won’t matter.
CJ Stroud Draft Odds
As is the case in the Heisman Trophy race, C.J. Stroud sits atop the odds chart to be selected first overall in the NFL Draft. Stroud is currently listed at +200 to be selected No. 1 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
At 6-foot-3 and nearly 220 pounds, Stroud is a prototypical NFL quarterback. Stroud has a cannon for an arm and is a very good athlete, although he rarely uses it to run. With an arm like his, who can blame him? The NFL Draft is still several months away, but for a team looking for a franchise quarterback, Stroud will be tough to pass up.
Early NFL mock drafts and projections have C.J. Stroud landing with QB-needy teams like the Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, or Seattle Seahawks.
