NL Manager of the Year Odds 2024: Where Reds’ David Bell Ranks

Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

Almost halfway into the MLB regular season, the national League wild card race is truly wild. Several surprise teams have emerged as NL playoff contenders, including the Cincinnati Reds, who have been a decent team for Ohio sports betting followers and fans alike.

Cincinnati is 35-39 (.473) and 1.5 games out of the final playoff spot as of June 21. That might lead some to wonder if sixth-year manager David Bell could be in line to be the next NL Manager of the Year. With that all in mind, BetOhio.com broke down some hypothetical odds for who has the best shot at winning the NL MOY award.

The odds below are from FanDuel Ohio Sportsbook as of June 20.

2024 Cincinnati Reds So Far

The Reds had a preseason win total over/under that ranged from 81.5 (DraftKings and FanDuel) to 83 (Caesars Ohio Sportsbook). True to form, Cincinnati is in the playoff chase alongside several other teams that are at or just barely below .500 in the NL.

Bell is still a longshot to win this year’s NL MOY award. We have him listed at +2500 odds, which puts him behind Rob Thomson of the Philadelphia Phillies (-110), Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers (+145) and Dave Martinez of the Washington Nationals (+2000).

Bell is listed alongside Mike Shildt of the San Diego Padres and Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers at those +2500 odds. Brian Snitker (Atlanta Braves), Carlos Mendoza (New York Mets), Craig Counsell (Chicago Cubs) and Oliver Marmol (St. Louis Cardinals) all have longer odds.

These odds are exclusive to BetOhio.com, though some Ohio sportsbook apps do have odds on this prop.

Over the past 10 years, no Reds managers have won the Manager of the Year. The last NL Central skipper to do so was Shildt when he managed the Cardinals in 2019. Before that, Joe Maddon of the Chicago Cubs was the most recent manager in the division to win the honor, in 2015.

For Bell, getting Manager of the Year is secondary behind getting the Reds back to the postseason – see our Cincinnati Reds playoff chances all season. Still, baseball fans in the Queen City will take whatever they can get after three seasons without a playoff berth.
